A day or weekend-workshop is a great opportunity to work with your body and instrument in a concentrated way.
The institution or group of participants usually determines the main subject matter. The two most popular workshops are “physioprophylaxis” and “coordination with instrument”.
“Physioprophylaxis” is usually taught in small groups. The main focus lies on the avoidance of playing related injuries and the improvement of strength, flexibility and coordination. Starting with a short theory and anatomy lecture, the class members then practice exercises that are important and helpful for musicians. The number of participants is limited to 8-10. In larger groups, the individual participant cannot be adequately corrected, therefore the restriction.
A presentation is more appropriate for a symposium, convention or at the university. Depending on the size of the hall, many people can learn about healthy music making. Demonstrative examples on living models (e.g. common postural faults) make the presentation vivid and clear.
The class “coordination with instrument” gives the students the experience to feel and hear a change in their playing immediately. All exercises are performed with the instrument so that any improvement in tone quality, technique and musical expression is audible. This class often takes part as an addition to an instrumental masterclass or at conservatories and schools of music.
The workshop models described above are just a few examples to give you an idea what is possible. For other topics please take a look at “specials”.
Current and upcoming workshops are listed under “schedule”.
